What a great hidden gem for families! We visited with our kids and had a wonderful time. The zoo is well maintained and the staff were friendly throughout our visit. Come by at opening to avoid the crowed. It’s the perfect size for younger children, with plenty to see without feeling overwhelming. The fact that the zoo is right in Prospect Park and close to the S, Q, and other subways is a huge draw. The main entrance isn’t actually very accessible because it has steps that will require carrying a stroller. There is an accessible side entrance. The animal cages, rooms, and ponds feel somewhat small compared to most modern zoos. There is a barn with farm animals that you can feed. Great zoo, and very affordable! I was surprised to see a lot of species here that I had not seen before in bigger zoos. I will say, I do think some of the animals need bigger enclosures (like the sea otters and some of the smaller monkeys).
