Barley Time is a Flushing bakery and café that focuses on a mix of pastries, bread items, and tea-based drinks, set up more like a quick stop bakery where you pick from display cases rather than a sit-down space. The layout is straightforward with shelves of baked goods and a drink counter that stays busy throughout the day. 2.7 stars. Stopped in to check this bakery out. Upon first entrance, the layout is easy to follow and tempting. We decided to get a snack and purchased one Coconut Cream Bread for ~$3. It was average. The cream while texturally nice was lacking in flavor and struck us more of margarine than butter. The bread itself was decent. The employee was not super engaged but did get us in and out. Overall, we were not impressed in this first visit.
Pay attention if you pay with a voucher and/or cash. Their cashiers are likely to stiff you on change. Their bakery products are okay. Drinks are incredibly mid in a vacuum, bad when compared to the other stores around the neighborhood. Their cakes are a whole other story. The good thing is that they are visually appealing. The taste and flavors are just awful. The cake itself has the texture of soggy bread loafs and just doesn’t mesh well with the cream and toppings. So the entire experience
