I was in NY this past weekend and bought a lot of goodies (pastries) to take back to DC. Cheese roll, pinetarts, patties and fruit cakes were good. The buns were ok. Howev-va... the salara was such disappointment! Don't know if it was just that batch, but I grew up knowing salaras to be kind of soft in texture. What I got, was bread with red coconut filling. Someone needs to go back to the drawing board on making those. They were so, so heavy! The staff was very friendly and helpful, I must say
I moved to NYC from Guyana roughly three years ago. Personally, I avoid Guyanese restaurants because of their lack of authenticity but my mother insisted that we give this one a try. This is now an added stop on our way to Utica for grocery shopping. The food is truly amazing and reminds me of home. Honestly, hands down the best Guyanese restaurant in NYC. You will not be disappointed with the food (very generous with the portions) or price point. And the customer service is exceptional.
