I was walking around the upper east side and ended up on Fifth Ave near the zoo. There I found the Arsenal building. I did not see any explanation but online I found it was built about 1850 to store Arms and ammunition for the NY state militia. A grand and beautiful old building sitting in the park facing Fifth Ave at 64th street. Right next to the zoo. Seems to now be offices for Central Park admin.
This review is about the facility where you buy tennis permits… The guy that was there to service people was so rude… If you don’t like your job, why don’t you look for something else? If you’re not good with people, go find something else but not customer service!
The Arsenal, 3rd oldest structure in Central Park built in 1847-1851 was used to store arms. Follow by Block House No.1 in the North Woods (1814.) And the oldest being Cleopatra’s Needle (1475 BC) erected in Central Park in 1881 from Alexandria, behind the MET. The Arsenal is still in used today as an administrative building for Central Park and it’s Zoo. E 64th Street and 5th Avenue. In the lobby of this building (lobby is open to the public) are beautiful murals from the 1930’s.
