Took the family out to explore Brooklyn and stumbled on this absolute gem of a noodle shop in Crown Heights. Walking into Don Udon genuinely feels like you’ve been transported right into a cozy, local spot in Tokyo. The space is intimate, and you can tell the chefs put serious care into the food. The handmade udon noodles are perfectly thick and bouncy, and the dashi broth is so clean and comforting. We ordered via the QR code, and the food came out piping hot in minutes. the workers were so incredibly kind and attentive, and the vibe inside very warm and comforting! i found the udon to be a bit basic: the noodles bouncy - but in a way that resembled the frozen type - and the broth simple and clean - but not very complex in flavor. kenka and raku definitely outshine flavor and value wise, imo. but if i’m in the area, i would come by don udon again! the toppings seem excessively expensive for what they are; and overall, it’s a little pricey.
I am a huge fan of raku so my expectations were high but Don Udon exceeded them all. The environment is so cozy just like a local spot in Japan and the udon noodles are bouncy while sitting in the flavorful rich but clean broth. The Niku beef is incredible and soooo thin but so so tasty. Just warms your soul. Also got a side of the cucumber unagi and highly rec. unagi quality is like that of an omakase. You order and pay through your phone so very fast and efficient!! Support local 🥹
