I think the highlight wasnt the hot dog but the papaya drink. It was weirdly tasty, had a sweetness to it, and tastes of.. the papaya fruit. The hot dogs were good, the meat was savoury and had a snap to it when eaten hot. You could ask for whatever toppings youd want to put on the hotdog.
A very classic NYC staple. If you want to try an NY style hotdog this is the place to do it. The prices are low and the food is great! I got a hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard and a papaya drink for $5.45. The hotdog had that snappy chew that is characteristic of dogs with natural casings, and was complemented well with the sauerkraut and mustard. Gray’s Papaya is an institution of the Upper West Side, most notably for their hot dogs and their papaya juice, but they also sell quite tasty breakfast sandwiches which are only $3 with a cup of coffee. True to their name, they also sell a variety of juices, including Papaya, of course. I liked the Grape one.
