Great NY Noodletown has been on this corner of Bowery and Bayard since 1981, and the fact that it still draws a full room on any given afternoon says everything about what the kitchen is doing right. The space is no-frills in the extreme, bright lights, tables close together, service that moves at its own pace and doesn't particularly care if you feel rushed, but once the food arrives all of that context falls away pretty quickly. We were there for dinner. Was not that busy inside but more take out. Our food came very fast. The duck was tasty but it has fat. So consider if you have some health issues. Other items we ordered were nice to try. The only thing is they accept cash. So you need to have if you want to try here. The prices are gone up. We paid (including tip) $100 for two people. But we took home for some dishes we could not finish.
This place became one of my new go-tos this year, mainly because of their wonton soup. The prices are great too! I've been here a few times and have ordered the roast meats over rice, the wonton soup, and the soft shell crab. The roast meats are what this place is known for, and they're pretty good. They often don’t come out warm (which I'm pretty sure is intentional for Cantonese roast meat shops). The char siu pork is probably my least favorite, with the roast duck being the one I like most.
