As someone from Hong Kong, I’ve tried many HK-style cafes in New York, and Fat Girl Kitchen has one of the closest flavors to what I grew up eating in Hong Kong. Their turnip cake is crispy on the outside, soft inside, and you can actually taste the radish texture — not overly powdery like some places. Among a small cluster of businesses on Kissena Blvd. are. Meter and residential Street parking if driving or less than 15 min. walk from Main St/Flushing station. Casual, small place, clean decor. Ok for groups. We got table service but others ordered at the 1 kiosk there. Prices are good, as well as portions. Kitchen 999 in Flushing recently started serving breakfast at 7:30am and it’s very affordable. Combos start at $5.99 and include a main dish and a drink. They have Hong Kong–style options like French toast, sandwiches, rice rolls, and toast with noodles. A great spot for a quick and budget-friendly breakfast.
