Northern Dumpling House in Elmhurst, Queens is exactly the kind of hidden gem you hope to stumble upon. It’s a true hole-in-the-wall spot—no frills, no fuss—but the food speaks for itself. Great serving portion and affordable. This big bowl of mala noodle with sliced beef is my usual go to, gets me full every time. You can eat at the store, no tip needed.
I’ve always enjoyed the pan fried dumplings at Lao Bei Fang Dumpling House, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I ordered them to go and received my food almost immediately after placing the order. When I got home, the entire box and the dumplings themselves were completely cold. There were no pan fried marks on the bottom, so they clearly weren’t freshly prepared. I also noticed the dumplings were noticeably smaller than before.
