The food felt really light and not too heavy (which is good)! My favorites were definitely the skewers and the naan. The Assam laksa had a nice noodle texture, but the broth tasted a bit too tomato forward and reminded me of tom yum, which wasn’t really my favorite personally. The nasi lemak was also quite goodz I liked how all the different ingredients came together. But the standout dish for me was by far the skewers! The peanut sauce combination was so flavorful and delicious.
We made a reservation for Laut on a rainy Saturday night. Restaurant was crowded, but we were seated fairly quickly. We started with the roti canai, which was truly excellent. For entrées, we ordered their Char Kway Teow and a basil chicken dish. I was actually pleasantly surprised by these dishes. I've actually lived in Singapore and visited Kuala Lumpur a few times and thought the flavors were outstanding. Highly recommended and definitely will visit again when in Man!
The venue itself is genuinely lovely. Walking in, you get the feeling of a traditional Malaysian shophouse, almost as if you have been transported to the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or Melaka. That said, some of the signage feels slightly out of place, creating more of a hawker-centre vibe even though the restaurant itself does not really resemble one.
