Nothing but bad vibes here. There is an apprentice or whatever who is very, very rude. His name was Dwayne or something so checks out. Go to Minerva’s School if you want an affordable and good art education this place is a money trap.
I felt a sense of community the moment I stepped inside. I loved that the hallways and galleries showcase original works by their students, some of whom were recognized masters. The spaces open to the public are small, yet worth visiting when you're in the lively midtown Manhattan area. Most of the works in the current exhibition didn't speak to me. The descriptions gave helpful context though.
The ASL was my refuge and the first place I finally felt comfortable enough to pursue my art as an adult when I first moved to NY. The instructors are all legendary, and everyone else who works or volunteers here are supportive and helpful. I’ve met artists from all levels of proficiency and ages and from all backgrounds here. If you are looking for an art school that values excellence while respecting flexibility, inclusivity, and diversity, this is the place.
