I’m on a winter-long mocha quest, and this place has the best one I’ve found in Brooklyn. The coffee beans are excellent on their own, but what really sets it apart is the use of Valrhona chocolate. It makes the mocha rich, balanced, and genuinely special. The owner is delightful, and conversations here are always fun and unpretentious. The shop itself is small and intimate, the kind of place that invites you to sit, slow down, and read the paper. Any time I’m in Park Slope, I go out of my way
So, I have driven by this place a great number of times and each time it would draw my attention. Today I decided that I would stop, park and go in. This place reminds me of a small neighborhood French cafe straight out of France. A lot of writers for some reason were there this morning who just happily started up conversations about writing (of course!), travel to foreign lands and world events. The coffee and owner-who was behind the counter making each coffee-are amazing!!! This took me
Very nice barista but super lazy technique which made the drink bad. He didn’t purge the group head, didn’t weigh out the grounds from a manual grinder, didn’t tamp correctly, and poured the shot directly over ice. The espresso beans also seemed like a dark roast which is odd in my experience. My $6.50 latte was ashy and bitter.
