A hidden gem! The entrance is modest, but there's a whole charming Mediterranean restaurant tucked away inside this unassuming Bronx neighborhood spot. Sawa offers classic eats like falafel & fries, alongside some other standard options. There's an outdoor patio and bar. Perfect for an afternoon lunch, or carryout. The French fries are deliciously seasoned with flavorful but mild spices, and the staff is friendly.
I only noticed the “Israeli couscous” on the menu after my visit when a friend told me, and that completely changed my perception. This is something I take seriously, and if I had known beforehand, I would have chosen somewhere else. Especially since everything there is Arabic, the music, the vibe, and the food. This new hidden gem in the heart of Riverdale was a lovely night out! Felt like you were transported somewhere. The atmosphere was elegant and fun, with kind and helpful staff. The food all tasted incredible - for mezze highly recommended the Kofta meatballs, spicy feta (pictured) and the Burek (go for the spinach and cheese — the pastry was so buttery and delicious!). End it with a plate of baklava and your heart and belly will be happy :)
