Japanese-style tea house featuring matcha and other beverages amid tranquil surroundings.

I stopped by Sorate at 103 Sullivan St for a matcha-focused experience, and overall it was a memorable visit with a few caveats. 📍 Atmosphere & Vibe The space is very small and minimalist — think a cozy, dimly lit spot with only a handful of counter seats. It’s more of a serene tea nook than a café where you can hang for hours. That intimacy creates a nice ambiance, but also means it gets crammed quickly when there’s a line out front. 🍵 Matcha Quality Sorate clearly uses high-quality matcha
I would fly across the country for this matcha. One of the most authentic you’ll find in New York, small shop and feels cozy and comfortable. I get the ice matcha latte with honey, I highly recommend trying the honey as your sweetener (you might need to ask for extra). 1000/10 will keep coming back to this place!!
Sorate is my top place in the city for matcha. I stop by a few times a week because I am hooked to their drinks and the zen energy of the space. The powder quality is best in class and they seem to have found the perfect milk to matcha ratio while being very generous with the amount of matcha they use. Margaret is an exceptional barista at this Sorate location. She meticulously whisked an amazing matcha at my last visit. Highly recommend!
