Worth the hype - glad to finally get to try! I came on Tuesday early afternoon, but otherwise note this place is always packed over the weekend with a line! There are also not that many seats so don’t expect them to be able to accommodate a large (4+) party easily. I got the duo chicken rice ($20) and coffee ribs ($14). As great as the hype suggests - particularly the poached chicken! Super tender and flavorful. Poached is definitely the classic and the way to go when it comes to hainanese chic
Tried Uncle Ray’s Singaporean Chicken Rice and I’m honestly impressed. The chicken was tender and juicy, with that clean, authentic flavor you expect from good Hainanese-style chicken rice. The rice itself was fragrant and well-seasoned, not greasy, and paired perfectly with the sauces. What stood out most was the balance simple dish, but done right. Portion size was fair and everything tasted fresh. Service was quick and efficient as well. If you’re craving Singapore-style comfort food, this
Not sure why there’s such a hype about this place. It’s just not very good, I’ve had much better in both NY and Singapore. The chicken wasn’t very tender or flavorful. The roast chicken didn’t come with any skin at all as you can see from the picture and it was dry. The pork was passable. And the coffee ribs was just coyingly sweet. The only good part was the hainan rice. Would skip….
