I love an old-school diner. I had fond memories of the Waverly but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed upon my return. The coffee was bad. My omelette was excellent, but the home fries were not. I think they may have been frozen and they were flavorless. And unfortunately, prices went up tremendously, making this a ridiculously expensive breakfast.
The Waverly Diner is my office away from the office and my home away from home. Now that I no longer live in the city, I still meet my tenants, brokers and associates at the Waverly Diner when I come up to New York each month to check on my six historic townhouses in the West Village. The food may be your typical diner fare, but the staff is A++ and they’re there and they care!
Ate here several times with a friend a few years ago and just walked by yesterday and was reminded. It is good for what it is: diner food. I always get the eggs and hashbrowns—no nonsense and good. I think it is better and I’m pretty sure it is more expensive than the more famous Washington Square Diner across 6th Ave.
