As a Chinese person, I can confidently say that Xie Bao is one of the most authentic Jiangsu–Zhejiang (Jiangnan) restaurants I’ve ever had in the United States. Tried their famous crab roe noodles for the first time, and I also ordered Nanjing duck. The crab roe sauce has a nice and umami flavor. The texture was very good as well. It wasn’t too thick or too watery. It also tasted quite fresh. No fishiness to it. The noodles were also cooked very nicely. However, I believe the crabs are salt water crabs, instead of fresh water crabs. Therefore, the flavor and texture weren’t as delicate. The Nanjing duck was delicious. The meat was savory and dense. The food was incredible. My favorites were the Pork Belly in Lotus leaves, the crab roe/duck soup dumplings and the crab roe over noodles. These dishes were super rich, flavorful! Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for amazing food and a great ambiance. I will be coming back!
