The food was really good. I quite liked everything except the pinsa, which was too plain. The portion sizes were confusing. Some were tiny, were others fine and some were quite large. It wasn't obvious what would be what based on price or position on the menu. The Milanese with prosciutto worked really well. The ambiance was nice, very dark and elegant, with real parafine candles. The staff was very attentive and caring.
It is an intimate and classy restaurant with an open counter/kitchen too. They serve authentic Italian food and a good selection of wine. We had the meatballs, cacao Pepe and rigatoni with pesto cream sauce and affogato. They were all delicious and fresh. The pasta tasted like home made to me. We chose this restaurant because it belongs to a Canadian restaurant group that we like when I was in Vancouver. I will try their sister restaurant (seafood) here in NYC next time.
We went back to Carlotto for the third time last night and left with even more confidence we want to return. The dishes were all fantastic. We especially enjoyed the Yellowfish Crudo, Beef Short Rib and Lobster pasta dishes. Each had excellent flavor and were perfectly prepared.
