A wonderful omakase experience at Sushi Mumi. The owner/chef Marco definitely showcased the best of the Japanese culinary skills and selected some of the most fresh and delicious ingredients available during the season. He was also a friendly and fun person to chat with. Food wise, each course is prepared with care and detail, well presented and tasted remarkable. My favorite was the hairy crab, which I ordered 2 additionals. The sake selection, although bot vast, but had some interesting choice
I had an amazing omakase experience here. Every course was beautifully prepared and incredibly delicious. You can tell how much care and attention Chef Marco puts into every detail—from the appetizers and fish to the presentation and pacing of the meal. Each dish was perfectly balanced and memorable. Without a doubt, this was one of my top omakase experiences. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly special sushi experience. I can’t wait to come back.
TLDR: Sushi Mumi is a proper omakase in the East Village where Kura used to be. Chef is a former Ginza Onodera alum so if you're missing that kinda flavor since they've closed - this is a good spot to pick. Came to Sushi Mumi after a few folks recommended it. It occupies the former space where Kura was (RIP) and a former Ginza Onodera chef runs the counter. The menu is on the higher tier of the sushi circuit at $250 before tax/gratuity with 5 otsumami, 10 nigiri/sushi, tamago, soup, dessert. T
