Waited for 1 hour. Paid about $23 dollars for small container suya. You could go to a Jamacian resteraunt nearby and get rice and peas with oxtail for $22.... Taste was ok some of the meat was smoky. Meat was cheaper cuts. Very hard to chew for this price. One piece was just fat that I could not eat. Overall just overpriced small portions.

This time-tested African eatery offers familiar, self-serve fare in simple, compact quarters.
The service is fine, some people just don't know how to handle bluntness. The food is good but not great, but mainly due to the oil. I know it's a critical part of this cuisine but like with Indian food, I expected a move away from heavy oil to allow the spices to enhance the flavor. That being said yes the jollof rice is good (I don't know about the best). The meats are tender there is no doubt. Just be aware you'll need a carbonated drink to unstick the oil while you eat.

I’ve been wanting to try Cafe Rue Dix for a a while. This was my first time there. Decor was chic, thoughtful and minimal. Our server was kind and attentive. I was hoping to order their baobab juice, but they sold out. Their Thiebou Jen was suuuuper yummy, hardy and is especially perfect comfort for this freezing NYC weather. Would absolutely return.

They gave absolutely no meat, everything was bone and fat. Extremely disappointed. Spices were great but this was disrespectful. You know how frustrating that is to see when you get home hungry thinking you’re about to tear it up? Tear what up? Spent 43$ on the thought of dinner. The other plate was 98% rice. I thought this was going to be so much better based on the rating. Don’t be fooled. They were really nice though so they have that going for them.

Tried Ethiopian food for the first time here and was blown away. I was in town and wanted to see the Jazz performance of Julia Danielle (amazing btw highly recommend) and met some friends for a nice, relaxed Sunday evening. We got a mix of sambusas which I highly recommend. They were so good and always brought out fast. The main dishes took more time, but were amazing. We shared a mix of food. The bread was so spongy and perfect for the mix of flavors. Injera is a must while here!

I’m actually a long time customer of BUKA but I think I’ve had enough. It’s like I have amnesia and continue ordering from them just to be disappointed every time. The egusi is so hit or miss. Today was a miss. Was more red stew and oil than it was egusi. But what really annoyed me today was the chicken they gave me with my jollof chicken combo. Fully burnt chicken. I’ve sent them the photos and they claim that it’s exactly how they intended so I want to post it here so they can stand on what th

We’ve been going to both locations for decades and last night, for the first time, we went for Valentine’s Day and it was perfect! They did a little decorating (cute, they made an effort) and the special kitfo with vegan sampler was the best. The service was especially sweet and she was really working so hard and it was packed — the grace under pressure was worthy of recognition. Thank you, Awash!

My friend and I came after 10 on a Saturday. It said here that it closes at 11 so we thought we'd be good. But when we got there chairs were up and etc. They still accommodated with rice and chicken even tho he wanted something more exotic. The boys working there were kind of annoyed but they provided and we ate quick and left. I have to try to be there earlier next time

With all my tolerance… I did not understand the price and food ratio, most of it was the flat bread - a huge crepe. The meat described in the menu was not the meat I got on my plate - mostly bones. Tables are super close to each other. The food was ok, mostly hot spicy with some of curry flavour. Probably for groups it is ok when you order different foods and cross- try from different plates. Omg! I've been craving some delicious, authentic African food. My beautiful coworkers recommended this spot. I been seeing them eat this delicious Djollof and finally decided to try it. I was so excited to see a fish option with the Djollof rice. It was amazing, delightful flavoring, a bunch of large pieces of veggies like cabbage, eggplant, carrot... The waitress was very nice and she was very thoughtful to put our 2 person order ahead of a table of 8 that got in around the same time. The chicken drumstick, lentils and collard greens were delicious. Loved every bite. On the other hand, the other chicken dishes (the one in grilled pieces) fell a little flat or one note (too spicy). Overall I’d go back and stick to the vegetarian plates.

Excellent beef suya bowl (4.5/5) with an incredibly nice staff and a very reasonably priced menu. We had the mild suya beef bowl with rice, kale, and a plantain. The meat was cooked extremely well, and there was a lot of it for a medium bowl. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, and the kale was good too. There's some outdoor seating.

We happened to be in this part of Brooklyn for the concert in a small park by my son's band, and happened to notice that there was a Senegalese restaurant nearby. Since we've never had Senegalese food, the decision to go there was no brainer. The interior of the restaurant looked like an art gallery, with paintings, carvings, handicrafts and photos from Western Africa. An old man (the owner?) received us. He recommended several vegetarian options for me, but I already had my heart set on the Okr

What a great spot! I ordered the Sabaayad Wrap with beef. The meat was very tender and well seasoned, and the bread (very similar to an Indian roti, if not the same) was buttery and flaky with a tender bite. The wrap also came with a side salad. I feel that most restaurants treat side salads as an afterthought, but not this one! It was very zesty and flavorful, and complemented the richness of the meat in the wrap. For only $11, this is probably the best and most affordable lunch in the neighb

Another great food adventure with my sister friends. I'm so glad we decided to try this place as our 1st African restaurant. I have been here 3x with family. I haven't had a bad dish here. There's so much food you will get a doggie bag. Bring your plastic containers to avoid a charge. I'm a fish lover & you will slap your mama over the fried croaker. Guys, believe me the food there is great! Ok, let's put it this way: it is not a restaurant in the way you are used to - it is pretty small but for people who appreciate tasty and good priced food - there is a place to be! Never eat here. I found cow foot in my fish dinner. They told me they ran out of sauce so they just take some from the cow foot pot. I mentioned that I am allergic and that I’m concerned about how sanitary that is to mix sauces and meats for customers that are expecting fish. They apologized and I asked for my money back they laughed in my face. This place is absolutely disgusting. I wouldn’t ever eat here again.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at African Home Restaurant. I ordered a LARGE tuozafi meal, and when I got home, I realized they completely forgot to include the stew — which is literally one of the main parts of the meal. I called the restaurant to explain the issue, and instead of handling the situation professionally, I was met with rude and dismissive behavior. What a truly remarkable experience. The food is lovely, so clean, healthy, yummy. Bersi herself is such a kind person who not only cooks the food but helps out in the front of the restaurant as well. It was super delicious and the chef added an extra Half tilapia lol. He was checking me out. Yaaaas I'm the Senegalese man dream lol apparently in NYC haha. My second plate was dibi. And he wasn't nice about it either, I've never seen a man shove 3 fingers in his mouth, and my poor daughter had to witness it all. But the egusi didn't have a morsel of sand in it. The woman who took my order was appalled..lol, but I love those flavors together. Probably the best Egusi I've had thus far, it was really hot and fresh. The jolof rice was not the best I've had, but together they were a winning team. I must also add, the food is on the pricey side compared to the portions. But going back for Egusi soup very soon.

Just came back from the restaurant and I feel so content and happy.
